One of the best things about living in the foothills is that it is in the heart of mandarin country. For a solid month and a half a year, we have access to fresh ripe mandarins. Please don’t confuse these with those “cuties” you can get at the store, there is no comparison to the real thing.
That’s why when I got a chance to paint a billboard with mandarins on it I jumped at the chance. Even though I’ve never painted one before.

The whole thing was about 6’x15’, and was based on an actual fruit label from the area.

This one was perfect because the billboard was going up at a historic schoolhouse in Loomis.

It came out pretty good. I stenciled on the logos for the museum and the county and projected all the lettering with an overhead projector so it was quick and easy.

I also carved a matching sign out of styrofoam to go at the entrance of the property.
